The left is failing Lucy Letby

Nurse Lucy Letby’s conviction on charges of murdering babies has now been widely discredited as a frame-up in the mainstream press. As evidence that she was scapegoated for the failures of the NHS is mounting, there has been a groundswell of support for her. But not among the socialist left. Far-left groups like the Socialist Party and the SWP say she’s guilty. Outlets like Novara Media and commentators like Owen Jones have been virtually silent on what many describe as the worst miscarriage of justice this century. Why? Because Letby’s case is unpopular among liberal and middle-class elements who believe in the justice system and dismiss frame-ups as conspiracy theories.

The fact that it is mainly the political right that has spoken up for Lucy Letby is a total indictment of the left and a scathing exposure of its blind faith in capitalist institutions.
