German elections scheduled for 23 February pose the burning need for working-class opposition to the social democrats and trade union leaders, whose treachery has prepared the ground for a right-wing victory. This is the struggle being waged by socialist dock worker Toralf Endruweit, a candidate in Hamburg-Wandsbek on the Internationalist List of the Marxist-Leninist Party (MLPD).

Toralf helped lead the fight against the MSC port privatisation deal in Hamburg which was pushed through last year with the collusion of the ver.di trade union leaders. A supporter of the Spartakist Workers Party and the Harbour Workers Committee for a Fighting ver.di, Toralf sees his campaign as the first step in forging an anti-imperialist current in the workers movement.
