In a brazen and arrogant provocation, Hawks/DPCI officials in Mbombela are once again harassing Xolani Khoza, threatening him with prosecution. In February, Hawks captain De Lange visited Xolani at his workplace to give him a summons demanding that he appear in court on Monday, 13 April. The bogus summons does not even give a case number, nor does it contain any charges!
To justify this blatant harassment, captain De Lange claimed that the previous charges against Xolani were only “provisionally” withdrawn. That is a lie. As everyone present can attest, the prosecution unconconditionally withdrew all charges against Xolani on 29 August 2025. They had no other choice, because in 14 months they hadn’t managed to produce a shred of “evidence” to support any of the charges against him. The whole case, from start to end, was nothing but an attempt to silence an outspoken opponent of the pro-imperialist, anti-black agenda of the “GNU” coalition.
Having failed miserably, now the Hawks are desperate to resurrect the case to avoid admitting defeat. They especially want to avoid returning Xolani’s belongings—his phone and passport. The Hawks took these things from Xolani when he was abducted at gunpoint in June 2024, and they refuse to return them even today, 7 months after the charges were dropped and Xolani’s bail money was returned.
Enough! The Committee to Defend Xolani Khoza struggled for more than a year, alongside dozens of organisations representing socialists, liberation fighters and workers, to have the trumped up charges against Xolani thrown out of court. His persecution was a threat to all of us, and we must not let the Hawks get away with this outrage. Hawks/DPCI: Hands off Xolani Khoza! Return all of his belongings, now! Stop the harassment!
