For months Birmingham bin strikers have been on the picket lines. Despite the threat of arrest and massive scabbing, they refuse to give in. Their determination has frustrated the Labour-led City Council and the government-backed commissioners. They have now escalated their attack, outrageously demanding that bin workers accept pay cuts of up to £8k, or they’re out of a job! If the council gets away with mass sacking of bin workers it will be a disaster for the trade union movement and for everyone in Birmingham, where the council is slashing hundreds of other jobs and services.

The employers have doubled down—to avoid defeat, the union must spread the bin strike to other unions! It’s urgent to change course. Union members: demand that your union reps and the Unite leadership fight for the following demands, or step aside:

  1. Issue an urgent appeal to all Birmingham unions: strike against the council.
  2. Build mass picket lines—stop scabbing!
  3. Appeal to agency workers to join the strike and get strike pay if they do!
  4. Pull the plug on funding for Starmer’s Labour Party, now!

If your leaders aren’t ready for a real fight, choose new ones.

There’s no time to lose.
