We write to vigorously protest the detention and threatened deportation of 14 farm workers involved in a union organizing drive at Lynn-Ette & Sons Farms in Kent, New York. We demand the immediate release of these workers and that all deportation proceedings be terminated.

For years, the United Farm Workers (UFW) has been fighting to organize farm workers at Lynn-Ette. The detained workers are originally from Mexico and Guatemala and work year-round at Lynn-Ette. On 2 May, they were being bused to work at the farm when ICE agents in unmarked cars pulled the bus over. The agents, using a list of names, targeted specific workers for detention and deportation, including several who have been active in the UFW union drive.

This blatant act of government union-busting is an attack on the entire workers movement. We demand: Release the detained farm workers! Hands off the United Farm Workers! No deportations!

Sincerely,
Kevin Gilroy
