On July 21, ten people, including five members of ILWU Local 10, were assaulted by police and arrested on the picket lines of striking ILWU Local 6 workers at C&H Sugar in Crockett. This is an attack on the very right of all unions to picket. On August 11, the ILWU Local 10 executive board unanimously passed a motion to mobilize its members in defense of the Crockett Ten. The following day, ATU Local 1555 also passed a motion demanding that the charges against all those arrested be dropped and calling on its members to come out in solidarity with the Crockett Ten in the courtroom on August 19. A resolution passed by the Retirees Chapter of AFSCME Council 57 on August 13 also takes up the call to mobilize in defense of the Crockett Ten.
The Bay Area labor movement and its supporters must show we stand united against strikebreaking and union busting! Your union could be next! Pack the courtroom on August 19, wear your union jackets and show we aren’t going to take this lying down! Get your unions to write letters to the Contra Costa DA demanding that all charges against the Crockett Ten be dropped!
